Laser treatment is the medical procedure of curing both internal and external diseases like cancer, skin-diseases, polyps, pancreas with the help of laser light. Laser light is a strong beam of light that can be used to cut or burn. In medical purposes it is generally used to burn or damage tissues.
It is a specific and spot-oriented cure that helps in curing the disease and not affecting the surrounding tissues.
Fields of treatment:
From external skin diseases to internal tumors, lasers help cure innumerable diseases. Amongst many a few common cures by laser are- treating varicose veins, corneal eye surgery to help improve vision, repairing a detached eye-retina, removing prostate, removing kidney stones, removing various forms of tumors, removing scars, tissues, tattoos, sun-marks, birthmarks, moles, hair and wrinkles.
Types of laser treatments:
Carbon Dioxide Laser (CO2): it is used for visible cancers like skin cancer. It treats deep set wrinkles, acne scars and other scarring, warts, birthmarks, skin tags, saggy skin, various forms of skin cancer, corns on feet, moles, and areas of sun damage.
However there are a few limitations with CO2 laser treatment. It has a high risk of causing red skin and scars. It often requires 2-3 weeks of recovery. People with active acne on the skin are not advised for this treatment due to a higher risk of hyper-pigmentation or hypo-pigmentation.
It helps cure fine lines, small to moderate wrinkles, skin pigmentations, acne, scars, sun damages and moles.
Erbium laser has an upper-hand than CO2 lasers as these are less damaging to the skin and surrounding tissues. Post symptoms of swelling, bruising, and redness subside in 1-2 weeks. This laser treatment is also advisable for people with a darker skin tone.
It helps in the treatment of vascular lesions, spider veins, broken capillaries, fine lines around eyes, and stretch marks.
Symptoms of bruising, and temporary pigmentation are commonly observed post-surgery.
